AREA TRASH & Recycling Committee MinutesAnnual Trash Committee for Luther Area Trash Committee Minutes June 9th, 2011 The monthly meeting for the Luther Area Trash Committee was held on June 9th, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. at the Luther Library, Luther Michigan. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Roger
Peel. Present were: The minutes of the May 5th, 2011 meeting were approved
with corrections being made to the attendance.

Loretta Roland was listed as being present and absent.
She was not present at the last meeting and Ron was absent. Old Business: Refrigerator
Disposal: Troy Steel Sorting and
Selling: Scott will get volunteers to sort the steel. Tire Disposal:
The company will not come for tires therefore no tires will be
taken. Trucks for Annual
Trash Cleanup: John Potts
contacted Republic and they confirmed the day for the annual cleanup and
stated no contract was needed. It
was discussed that the townships and Scott Lucas will gather volunteers needed
for the cleanup. Notice for Annual Cleanup: The notice had to be changed to state No Tires will be accepted and Newkirk wanted the notice to inform people not to block driveways. New Business: Bids for Preferred
Hauler: A letter was received
from Waste Management that they currently do not service the Luther Area but
if we decided to go with a Single Hauler, they would be more than happy to
submit a bid to us. Darrell Fenstermacher from IRWS presented his bids for
the Preferred Hauler. He presented
5 different options. None of them
had his company collecting any of the fees but he provided percentage rates
for each option that would be paid back to whomever collected for the
services. He stated that the cost
would be greater if his company collected.
He currently has services for several townships in the area. The options will be broken down into an excel spreadsheet
to show how much each option will cost individuals who chose to participate if
a preferred hauler is agreed upon by the townships. It was discussed that we could submit a survey to the
people asking if they currently have trash pickup and how much they pay for
their current service. Members
should begin thinking of questions so we can obtain as much info from the tax
payers to relay back to the townships for their decision on how to proceed. Next Meeting Date: The next meeting will be held at the Luther Library August 4th, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 P.M. Respectfully Submitted, Cindy Holmes Secretary June 7th, 2011 Hazardous
